"Way Back When" | Drew Holcomb & the Neighbors

Watching you laugh 'til you can barely breathe Doing tricks out on the trampoline Still refusing to brush your teeth At the end of the day

Trying to catch you a lightning bolt Four leaf clovers and a pot of gold You still don't like doing what you're told But I guess that's okay

'Cause pretty soon you'll be twenty one Out on the town just having fun But I'll still remember you, my son From way back when Pretty soon you'll be thirty two You'll call me up out of the blue And you'll still sound like the kid I knew From way back when

You came home crying this afternoon Some kid at school said some things about you Now you're feeling some kind of blue That I can't make go away

You are moving and you are becoming I guess this is where you start running Out of the door and into the sun And I have to be okay

'Cause pretty soon you'll be forty three You'll be looking back just like me And we'll laugh about how it use to be Way back when Maybe by then you'll live far away Some other city, and some other state Please come home for Christmas and it'll be great Like way back when

Going past in the blink of an eye I'd slow it down and I try and I try But I've learned you have to let go Of whatever it is you love so much

Pretty soon you'll be older than me And I'll be a part of history I hope you'll carry the best of me From way back when I know you'll carry the best of me From way back when
