I Went Fishin'

For 14 years I had a best friend black lab Hoggin' up the bench in a crew cab Head hangin' on a two lane breeze Burnin' up tires, just her and me She went everywhere I went 'Til our time was through I said my goodbyes, didn't know what to do

So I went fishin' Wet a line Let all the time just pass me by I drank a beer in a boat Really learned how to let a good one go Watched the sky fade from red to blue Talked to God there for an hour or two Found a little healing at the end of a buzzbait hittin' I went fishin'

Mary wasn't my first riverside kiss I ever had But I damn sure wanted her to be my last Me in love like I never dreamed Had me thinkin' 'bout a diamond ring But she had plans that I didn't fit in By the time her plane was takin' off I was droppin' that motor in

And I went fishin' Wet a line Let all the time just pass me by I drank a beer in a boat Really learned how to let a good one go Watched the sky fade from red to blue Talked to God there for an hour or two Found a little healing at the end of a buzzbait hittin' Yeah, I went fishin'

I've been to the bar to try to forget Drove around for miles when nothin' made sense But when I needed to face the gone When I needed to start movin' on

I went fishin' Wet a line Let all the time just pass me by I drank a beer in a boat Really learned how to let a good one go Watched the sky fade from red to blue Talked to God there for an hour or two Found a little healing at the end of a buzzbait hittin'

When I had to shut the whole world off, even just for a minute I went fishin' Yeah, I went fishin'
